The Greater Palouse Youth Orchestra (formerly known as the Moscow Youth Orchestra) was founded in August 2001 by Sheila Kilcoyne and area string teachers with the support of the Lionel Hampton School of Music. In August 2004, the orchestra became part of the University of Idaho Orchestra program. The GPYO has been part of the Preparatory Division since 2012.

The GPYO includes students grades 9-12 who commit extra time to the study of their instrument. The objective of the GPYO is to enhance the music curriculum currently offered in local public schools, and to provide a university level youth orchestra program to area musicians. The GPYO presents two full concerts each year in addition to collaborations with other orchestras.

Rehearsals are Thursdays from 6:45-8:30 p.m. in Room 216 of the Lionel Hampton School of Music. The GPYO presents two full concerts each year (in December and May), plus one or two performances combined with other orchestras. Membership is by audition only. Auditions are held in August and January (for new members only).

Tuition for the GPYO is $150/semester. For more information or to schedule an audition, please email Sheila Kilcoyne. You can download audition excerpts by clicking here.
